    22 February 2009 - Tibet

The Chinese government has quietly barred foreign tourists from entering Tibet before the 50th anniversary of a rebellion against Chinese rule, according to news reports confirmed by a Tibetan human-rights activist.

Travel agencies have been told not to organize tours for foreigners into Tibet until after April 1, according to reports.

The government says that Tibet remains open and that foreigners can apply as usual for permits to travel there, but it has not said when they would be processed.

    8 October 2008 - Nepal

A light aircraft carrying 18 people crashed into the perimeter fence at Lukla Airport, 300km east of the capital of Kathmandu. The aircraft snagged its wheels on a security fence as it came in to land, say airport officials. Mohan Adhikari, general manager of the Kathmandu airport, says that of those who died, 12 were German tourists, two Australian and two Nepalese tourists, as well as two of the three Nepalese crew members. One of the pilots survived. The identity of one passenger is not yet known. Our sincere condolences go out to the families of those affected. None of Nomadic Adventures clients were on board.

At least 16 police officers were killed, and 16 more were wounded, after an attack on a border police station in Kashi, in the Xinjiang Uygher Autonomous Region.

The attack comes just four days before the start of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. At this point, we are not certain if this will affect border crossings into Tibet.

    18 July 2008 - Tibet

The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu is now issuing visas for tourists entering Tibet. Most notable change is that now they require 5 days of processing time after we submit original passport & visa application.  Clients therefore have to arrive at least a week before scheduled departures to Tibet. We are monitoring the situation as it is expected to change again.

    6 July 2008 - Tibet

The Tibet Travel Bureau (TTB) is not issuing visa approval & permits for tourists. All applications are on hold. Details awaited.

    24 June 2008 - Tibet

It gives us great pleasure to announce that the Tibet borders have re-opened bringing much needed funds back into the country. At this point, no additional travel restrictions have been imposed and all tours are now running as normal.  Contrary to some newspaper reports, additional restrictions have not been imposed . Some restrictions which were in place prior tot he border clamp down have been modified. The restrictions are as follows:-

    1) All tourists still require a travel permit for Tibet, which has always been the case

    2) Travel permits take about 2-3 weeks to obtain, which has always been the case

    3) Tibet visa fees for US Nationals cost more than other Nationals, which has been the case since the start of 2008

    4) Restrictions have been modified as they relate to group travel in that no person may travel on their own, and any group may not consist of nationals from more than 3 countries. As this can affect fixed departure tours it means that any FD group will be split e.g. into two groups if it consists of nationals from more than 3 countries.

    23 May 2008 - South Africa

Recent reports in the meida claim that foreigners are being attacked. This is not entirely true as the foreigners being attached are some legal, and illegal immigrants from neighbouring states. Safe travel within South Africa for foreigners is continuing as scheduled

    11 April 2008 - Tibet

Rumour has it that despite claims that the borders will re-open in Tibet, the TTB will keep borders closed until after the Olympic torch has passed through Tibet. All clients affected because of forced cancellation of tours will be re-funded in full.
