EASTER ISLANDS RAPA NUI
ITINERARY
Day 1: Santiago
Arrival in Santiago, reception
and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2: Santiago
After breakfast, a city tour
of Santiago including a visit to the Government Palace, the Main Square,
the Cathedral and a visit to the pre-Columbian museum of art. An excursion
to the Cerro San Cristobal viewpoint for a beautiful panoramic view of the
city. Santiago de Chile was founded in 1541 and is in a beautiful setting
with only 62 miles separating the Pacific coast from ski resorts in the
high Andes.
Day 3: Santiago
Today a visit via the Maipo
Canyon and up to Las Vertientes, a popular resort at the foothills of the
Andes. We continue towards Pirque, a picturesque village and the Concha y
Toro winery. Founded in 1883 by the Marquis of Casa Concha, he appointed
French oenologist M. de Labouchere to bring the finest stock vine from
France and to have it planted in the Maipo River Valley. The tour will end
with some wine tasting before returning to Santiago.
Day
4: Vina del Mar
After breakfast, private
transfer to Viña del Mar, the most exclusive beach resort in Chile.
Arrival and reception at your hotel . Viña del Mar is famous for gourmet
seafood restaurants, beautiful avenues lined with palm and banana trees
and vast stretches of white sandy beaches.
Day 5:Vina del Mar
Free day of leisure.
Day 6: Santiago – Rapa
Nui
After breakfast, transfer back to Santiago airport for the flight to Rapa
Nui, otherwise known as the Easter Islands. Reception and transfer to
Iorana hotel complete with outdoor swimming pool and beautiful views of
the Pacific Ocean.
Day 7: Rapa Nui Tour
After breakfast, a full day's tour visiting Vaihu, where eight toppled
Moai lie, Akahanga, Rano Raraku volcano, where the statues are half
buried, Ahu Tongariki, where the largest Ahu (or platform) is located, Te
Pito Kura (a large rock believed to have been brought from Tahiti) and Ahu
Nau Nau (where the Moai are in particularly good condition). After a
picnic lunch, time to enjoy the Anakena beach, the legendary landing place
of Hotu Matua, the founder of Rapa Nui.
Day 8: Rapa Nui Tour
Half day's excursion to Rano Kau volcano, site of ancient petroglyphs and
the ceremonial temple of Iorongo, Vinapu (site of meticulous stonework
found nowhere else on the islands) along with the Anakai Tangata caves.
Free afternoon.
Day 9: Rapa Nui Tour
Half day's excursion to Ahu Akivi, the famous seven Moais, believed to be
one of the last built around 1460 and measuring 14 feet in height and
weighing 12 metric tons. The caves of Ana Tepahu and Puna Pau, a quarry,
from where the red hats that are worn by some of the Moai were made is
also visited today. Free afternoon
Day 10: Rapa Nui - Santiago
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight back to
Santiago and onward for your flight home
