Overview of Poon Hill Trek

Itinerary

 

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 02: Guided Sightseeing in Kathmandu and some preparations for the climb.

 

Day 03: Flight to Pokhara

After breakfast we will fly to Pokhara.  After checking in at the hotel  we will head out to view the major sites to include Vindyavasini Temple, and Mahendra Cave. We will lalso visit the Tibetan Refugee Camp and continue to David Falls before getting back to the Hotel. You can have some free time around the main Pokhara city to explore in on your own.

 

Day 04 : Start the Trek - reach Ghandrung

After breakfast, drive to the trek starting point Naya Pul (1 hr). The trek starts with descent of an hour to Birethanti. We then walk through the rice fields along the riverside to Syaulibazar. To get Ghandrung (1,950m) we climb through rice fields and forest. Here you will find an interesting Gurung village with a good chance to see the famous Fishtail mountain, Machupuchre. Overnight Lodge.

 

Day 05 : Tadapani

Today we will trek through walk through the dense forest preserved by Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) for 3 hours. We will reach Banthanti for lunch after which the route ascends and descends until be reach Tadapani (2,540m). Lodge Overnight.

 

Day 06 : Ghorepani

The climb today is steep in some places as we head through a mixed forest of oak, magnolia and rhododendron to a small forest clearing at Banathati. The trail then heads up to a ridge with fine views and drops a little to Ghorapani at 2834 meters. (Trekking: 5 hrs) Overnight Lodge.

 

Day 07: Hike up Poon Hill. Trek to Tirkhedhunga

This morning we trek up Poon Hill at 3210m, a vantage point to view the Dhaulagiri (8167 m) and the Annapurna massif. We then head through rhododendron foress and make a steep descend on a stone staircase to Tirkhedungha (1,360m). (Trekking: 6 hrs) Overnight Lodge.

 

Day 08 : Nayapul. Drive back to Pokhara

Today is an easy walk of 3/4 hours which will bring us back to Naya Pul, from where we will drive to Pokhara (1hr). Enjoy the attractions of Pokhara on your own. Overnight Hotel.

 

Day 09: Fly to Kathmandu

This morning we will rise early and drive to Sarangkot for a view of sunrise over Machupuchre. After breakfast elephant, land rover and canoes will transfer you to waiting vehicles. You will drive to airport and fly to Kathmandu. Rest will be the free day at Kathmandu. Hotel

 

Day 10: Final Departure

Final Departure from Kathmandu.

Grade - 1b FP

 

A combination of long days with steep paths and some mountain scrambling. The route follows reasonable paths through thick vegetation, up hillsides, slippery shale surfaces.  Snow and or ice may be encountered along the route. There is no need for technical climbing equipment. Altitude levels up to and around  to 4200m. Medium risk of altitude sickness.

 

General level of fitness is required e.g. hill walking for about 5km. Daypacks will weight about 4kg.

Tourist entry visas can be obtained for the following duration from Nepal Embassy/ Consulate or Mission offices abroad, or at the following entry points in Nepal:

Tourist Visa Fees

Multiple entry 30 days US$ 40 or equivalent convertible currency
Multiple entry 90 days US$ 100 or equivalent convertible currency

Tourist Visa Extension

Visa extension fee for 15 days or less is US $ 30 or equivalent convertible currency and visa extension fee for more than 15 days is US$ 2 per day
 Tourist visa can be extended for a maximum period of 150 days in a single visa year (January – December).
 

Indian nationals do not require visa to enter into Nepal.

Transit Visa

Transit visa for one day can be obtained from Nepal's immigration offices at the entry points upon the production of departure flight ticket via Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal, by paying US $ 5 or equivalent convertible currency.
