Norway in a Nutshell

Itinerary

DAY 1:  OSLO – FLÅM

Depart by train from Oslo. After you have crossed the rugged Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau, change train and enter the famous Flåm Railway. This railway has been ranked one of the top 20 train rides in the world, and is the world’s steepest railway line on normal gauge. Arrival in Flåm, beautifully situated at the end of the Aurlandsfjord. The Norwegian fjord landscape is considered to be one of the most spectacular sceneries in the world. Spend the evening enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Overnight: Fretheim Hotel, Flåm.

DAY 2:  FLÅM – BERGEN

Depart from Flåm by fjord ferry in the early morning. During your journey to Bergen you will sail through the Nærøyfjord, considered to be among the most scenically outstanding fjord areas in the world, and was recently placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The Nærøyfjord is part of the Sognefjord, the world’s longest fjord. Arrival Bergen in the early afternoon. Bergen is Norway’s second largest city.

Overnight: Strand Hotel, Bergen. (B)

DAY 3: BERGEN

Due to its location, Bergen is often called “the Gateway to the Fjords”. The city is surrounded by seven mountains, and if you take the funicular up to Mount Fløyen, you have a wonderful view of Bergen and its surroundings. Enjoy a 3-hour sightseeing tour, which includes a visit to Fantoft Stave Church, and Troldhaugen – the home of the famous composer Edvard Grieg. We also recommend a stroll around in the Hanseatic quarters, a visit to the popular fish- and flower-market, or maybe a visit to the Bergen Aquarium.

Overnight: Strand Hotel, Bergen. (B)

DAY 4:  BERGEN – OSLO

Own transfer to the station.  Depart Bergen by train. The journey will take you through a breathtaking landscape with a constantly changing panorama of sky-high mountains, thundering waterfalls and green pastures at the bottom of the valleys. Arrive in Oslo in the afternoon, own transfer to hotel. Balance of day at leisure.

Overnight: Scandic Byporten Hotel, Oslo.  (B)

DAY 5:  OSLO

Own transfer to the airport for departure, or continue your journey through Scandinavia.  (B)
