Giant Dolphins in Torres del Paine? As if
there wasn't enough reason to visit the amazing Torres del Paine! During
2003 a group of German experts that were looking for insect’s fossils, found
a strange shape on a rock. It turned out to be an Icthyosaurus. The
Icthyosaurus are known as "fish lizards" and first appeared in the Trassic
seas 250 million years ago. They were called fish lizards because they had
evolved from reptiles, but could swim like fish. There isn’t a lot of
information about what type it was that the scientist found in Torres del
Paine, but the giant rocks where they were found, were recently
transported to the city of Punta Arenas where they can be seen at INACH
(National Antarctic Institute). Patagonia as always is full of surprises!

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

1)
Can I get call phone coverage on Kilimanjaro? Yes you can. In
fact, you can even get cell phone signal at the summit. You will
find that there are some camps that you battle with and normally between
Kibo/Barafu and Stella, you will battle to find signal. You will not get
any signal in the crater though.
2)
Can I use my credit card in Peru?
The most widely accepted card is VIsa. Some places also accept
Mastercard but generally AMEX and Diners Card are a problem in Peru.
3) I have heard that you can buy fossils in Tibet at base camp? Do you
know the cost of them? Vendors do sell fossils at base camp,
however, we urge you not to buy them as this simply perpetuates the
gradual destruction of the environment and illegal trade in fossils. You
are also not allowed to remove any fossil from Tibet.
