MOUNTAIN BIKING TIBET ITINERARY

 

 

Day 1Arrive Kathmandu. Transfer to Hotel (4 star).

 

Day 2: Full day of guided sightseeing around the Kathmandu valley and a welcome dinner with an entertaining Nepalese culture show. Overnight Hotel

 

Day 3 Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa

In the afternoon you can unpack your mountain bike and explore this legendary city. Overnight Hotel.

 

Day 4 A full day of sightseeing, to include Jokhang Temple, the local market, and Potala Palace, Overnight Hotel.

 

Day 5 Morning of sightseeing and afternoon to explore at leisure. Overnight Hotel.

 

Day 6 Start the Bike Tour!

We start our mountain biking tour from Lhasa to Kathmandu along the Tsangpo River to the foot of the Kamba Pass (3700 m). [Total cycle: 85 km].

 

Day 7 Kamba Pass

Our first mountain pass with an uphill climb to (4794m) and a descent to Lake Yamdruk at 4490m. Overnight in tents. [Total cycle: 55 km]

 

Day 8 Karo Pass

Mountain Bike up to the foot of the Karo Pass (4750m). Overnight tents. [Total cycle: 54 km]

 

Day 9 Gyantse

Early mountain bike climb up the high Karo Pass (5010m). overnight in Gyantse (3980m) Hotel

 

Day 10 Shigatse

Early tour of the Palkhor Monastery and the old part of Gyantse town. The road today is paved and flat as we head to Tibet's second largest city, Shigatse (3860m). Overnight accommodation at Hotel [Total cycle: 94 km]

 

Day 11 Gyachung Monastery

We cycle over two small passes, past the isolated Gyachung Monastery and camp (4100m). [Total cycle: 75 km]

 

Day 12 Lhatse

A picturesque cycle through valleys and over the Yulong pass (4520m), towards Lhatse (3860m). Accommodation in tents. [Total cycle: 95 km]

 

Day 13 Shegar

Today we will get our first view of Mount Everest as we head toward Pelbar, often referred to as Shegar. Overnight accommodation in a hotel. [Total cycle: 75 km]

 

Day 14 Pang Pass

We head off the main road towards Everest Base, facing 20km of uphill switchbacks on your mountain bike with a total of 42 hairpin bends to the summit of the Pang Pass (5150m) then head to the Rongbuk Valley (4200m). Overnight accommodation in tents. [Total cycle: 67 km]

 

Day 15 Rongbuk Monastery

After 35km of cycling, the majestic Mount Everest appears. We will stay here for two days. Overnight tents (5150m). [Total cycle: 35 km]

 

Day 16 Everest Base Camp

A day to relax, or trek or cycle or hop on a donkey, and head to base camp, only 8km away. Overnight in tents.

 

Day 17: Tingri

We head back down the bumpy road on our mountain bike towards Tingri (4340m). Overnight tents. [Total cycle: 76 km]

 

Day 18: Lalung Pass

We head off on a pre-lunch, 40 to 50km flat ride and then tackle the gradual incline of the Lalung Pass (4990m). Overnight in tents in the valley [Total cycle: 75 km.]

 

Day 19: Cross Thang Pass

Now get ready for one last uphill as we climb Thang Pass (5050m). You will be treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayan chain as you freewheel towards the ultimate downhill! [Total cycle: 55 km]

 

Day 20: The Ultimate Downhill

From here, it is all downhill to the Nepalese border with breathtaking views of the Himalayan chain. This will be our last day in Tibet. Overnight hotel. [Total cycle: 117 km]

 

Day 21 Back to Nepal

We clear customs and head 50km towards Dolalghat, followed by a climb up to Dhulikhel (1600m). Accommodation hotel/resort. [Total cycle: 97km]

 

Day 22 Bhaktapur and Kathmandu. Free day for shopping, etc

After a sunrise breakfast with views of the Himalayas, we freewheel down through  Bhaktapur and then head into Kathmandu. [Total cycle: 35 km]. Afternoon at leisure followed by a celebratory dinner of our mountain biking tour from Lhasa to Kathmandu.

 

Day 23 Departure from Nepal at the end of your incredible mountain biking tour from Lhasa to Kathmandu.

 

Cost: USD$1960.00 per person sharing for a minimum of two people for 9 August 2009 and 3 September 2009 departures only.

 

Costs Include:

01. All ground transfers by private vehicle as per our itinerary.

02. Hotel in Kathmandu (Twin sharing, bed & breakfast basis including all Tax and VAT.)

03. Welcome dinner with Live Nepalese Cultural Program

04. Guided sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley with all applicable entrance fees.

05. Airfare: Kathmandu-Lhasa.

06. Tibet Travel Permit Fee, Tibet Visa fee and all other applicable fees.

07. Guided sightseeing in Lhasa (includes all entrance fees).

08. Hotel in Lhasa . (Twin sharing, bed & breakfast basis including all applicable Tax and VAT.)

09. All hotels on the way (as mentioned in Itinerary).

10. Daily wages, visa fee and insurance of staffs, guides, porters and Yak men.

11. Three meals a day while camping (prepared by our kitchen crew),

12. All camping equipment such as Two men tent, Dinning Tent, Kitchen tent, tables, chairs, mattresses and etc.

13. Support Truck to carry your luggage for all groups, and a Land Cruiser for assistance for groups of 8 or more. Available at all times (while in Tibet ).

14. Tips at the border crossing for carry of luggage across Friendship Bridge

15. Packed lunch for border crossing into Nepal

 

Costs Exclude:

01. International Airline flights, Airport Taxes (see below) excess baggage charge.

02. All expenses of a personal nature such as beverages, telephone bill, laundry bill, mineral water, tips and etc.

03. Personal medical and travel insurance.

04. Rescue & evacuation - if needed.

05. Nepal re-entry visa fee.

06. Extra expenses and/or additional days caused due to unexpected events (delays, porterage because of land slides and other natural events.)

 

Special Conditions: 

* Price is only valid for the 9 August 2009 and 3 September 2009 departures Fixed Departure Dates ex Kathmandu.

* Tour must be booked and paid for in full when booking.

* Price only applies for a minimum of two people per person sharing joining the above fixed departure tour.
