Your Questions answered:-

1)  I'm most interested in the Mt Kenya Sirimon route, returning via Chogoria, however am interested in any feedback you have on Chogoria vs Naro Moru.

2) With all that snow on Kilimanjaro, is there a risk of there being ice and the need for crampons - or is it really just thick trudging type conditions?

GROUPS TO JOIN - If you are looking for people to join you or want to join a group, let us know and we will list it here.

NEWS

Cubans get access to certain commodities....For the first time since Fidel Castro's official resignation, President Raśl Castro has legalized cell phone use for ordinary Cubans; granted Cubans access to previously off-limits tourist hotels; and legalized the sale within Cuba of microwaves, DVD players and personal computers. Cubans are welcoming the change, even if the costs are out of their reach. Most Cubans can't afford to rent cell phones, stay in hotels or buy any of the new products available to them as the average monthly salary is just under $20, but they are happy with the changes that are taking place. YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED                                                                                        TOP OF PAGE
1) I'm most interested in the Mt Kenya Sirimon route, returning via Chogoria, however am interested in any feedback you have on Chogoria vs Naro Moru. The Sirimon route has its base at Nanyuki to the north of the mountain. This route is far more scenic albeit longer than the Naro Moru route. You will get much more spectacular views on this route from waterfalls to rugged rocks and tarns than on Naro Moru  Tour itinerary

2) With all that snow on Kilimanjaro, is there a risk of there being ice and the need for crampons - or is it really just thick trudging type conditions? No, there is no need for crampons and you won't experience bad ice conditions. The average snow fall (when it does) is about 2cm. The path from Barranco to Summit transverses some rock areas just above 4600m, and then you hit the volcanic scree. It does get quite icy at night and really "crunches under foot" as you walk over it.  You will only encounter snow about 4800m, but mainly from about half way to summit/Stella point that you will find snow. Tour itinerary

3) Is it possible to sleep in the tea rooms and have the food cooked by your guides? This is not a standard request but certainly one we can accommodate. It would of course make the standard lodge trek more costly as we would need to send a cook and about 2 porters (dependant on group size) to carry up the equipment i.e.. Kitchen tent, mess tent, and all cooking equipment, table, chairs. etc. So cost wise it would probably work out marginally less than a camp trek. Tour itinerary
