NEWS

Celebrating the first summit of Mt Everest....For those of you using Google as a search engine probably noticed the banner on 29th May included an image of two climbers on Mt Everest. The banner celebrated the first recorded summit of Mt Everest on 29th May 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Mt Everest if 8848m, and stands the equivalent of 20 empire states buildings above sea level. To date, there are a total of 15 routes up the mountain.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED                                                                                        TOP OF PAGE
1) Do we have to have trekking boots to visit the Mountain Gorilla?  Although proper trekking boots give you good ankle support and added benefit (if waterproof), it is not essential. You can do the trek in a good pair of sneakers, takkies, trainers etc. It is a good idea to have gaiters and a spare pair of socks in your backpack to change into after the trek though - just for comfort sake. But either way, the gorilla won't be too concerned about your attire JTour itinerary

2) What is the best ski resort in South America? This is one of those long piece of string answers as it really depends on your level of expertise in skiing and also what you look for in a resort. For some, the after parties are important, others the family events and others, the slopes. Valle Nevado, Portillo and Bariloche normally come up as favourites.  For further details, email us

3) What is a Tea Room for accommodation mentioned in your newsletter (last months reference?)  A Tea room, or Tea House, is basically a type of lodge that one can stay in on many treks in the Himalaya's. The lodges or houses are quite basic, but come with toilet facilities, a dining area and often, private rooms.
