LATEST
NEWS
1) Kilimanjaro Marathon. On March, 2nd 2008, a
standard 42.2 km marathon and a 21.1 km half marathon
will be run from the town of Moshi, Tanzania. This race
has been set up to promote the sport in Tanzania, and
has the official backing of the Tanzania Tourist Board,
the Tanzania Amateur Athletics Association, the IAAF,
and is registered with AIMS. The route will start on a
relatively flat 8-9 km section around Moshi town and
will then have a gradual ascend on the slopes of
Kilimanjaro passing through small farms, villages,
banana and coffee plantations and forests. The locals
will give ample vocal support. The last 10 kilometers
will be a fast downhill section ending at Moshi stadium
where local bands will be playing and where crowds
will cheerfully welcome those who made it. There will
also be a half marathon route. If anyone is interested
in doing the marathon, or watching the race and then
doing a Kilimanjaro Climb, send us details of what you
are looking for by

Officials in Nepal say the government has
agreed to abolish the country's monarchy as part of a deal
to persuade Maoist former rebels to rejoin the interim
government. The Maoists walked out of the government three
months ago, vowing not to return unless the royal system was
scrapped. They have now secured what they wanted, even though
the other parties in the ruling coalition have said up to now
that the electorate should decide on the issue via the new
assembly.
YOUR
QUESTIONS ANSWERED
TOP OF PAGE
1) How
many kilometres do we walk each day on Everest Base Trek? The
base camp trek is not measured so much in Kilometres, as in altitude gain
as this is more significant. Some days you may do about 5km, others 8-15
depending on terrain, ascent or descent etc.

2)
I would like
to spend a few nights in a lodge at Everest Base Camp. What would the cost
be? There are no lodges at
Everest Base Camp on the South Side, so one can only stay in tents and
thus do a camp trek. We can send tents up separately on a lodge trek for
you but this will increase the cost.
Tour
itinerary However, if you are talking about Everest Base Camp
on the Tibet/North side, then here you can stay at e.g. Gompa Guest House.
On this tour, you can drive to base camp.

3)
I have heard that one has to do the Mt Kailash trek in an anti-clockwise
direction. Why is this? In fact, one does the trek in a
clockwise direction. It is only the Bon's that go anti-clockwise, the
direction being pertinent to ones religion.
