DAY
1: PUNTA ARENAS
Arrival at Punta Arenas. Transfer to your hotel in
Punta Arenas. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.
Overnight in Punta Arenas.
SIB Version: Upon
arrival, late afternoon transfer to Puerto Natales; on our way to the
town we will visit the penguin colony at Seno Otway.
Overnight at Puerto Natales.
DAY 2: PUNTA ARENAS/ PUERTO NATALES – TORRES DEL PAINE
Transfer to Torres del Paine National Park. We will
travel through the Pampa Steppes and watch out for typical animals like
the ñandu and a variety of smaller birds. We stop to visit the Milodon
Cave where a herbivore giant sloth lived about12.000 years ago. Arriving
at Torres del Paine National Park, we will pass the Laguna Amarga and
Lake Pehoé (depending on the hostería we stay in). We will have
beautiful views of the Paine Massif, Almirante Nieto, and Torres del
Paine and can observe the wildlife of the area that includes guanacos,
rheas, foxes, skunks, cauquenes, black-necked swans, flocks of
flamingos, condors, and eagles. Overnight at Torres del Paine. (B)
DAY 3: TORRES DEL PAINE
Full day excursion inside Torres del Paine National
Park visiting Lake Pehoé, Lake Nordenskjöld, Lake Sarmiento, and the
Salto Grande with beautiful views of the Paine Mountain Range and Torres
del Paine. (B, BL)
DAY 4: TORRES DEL PAINE - CERRO CASTILLO - EL CALAFATE
Leaving the Torres del Paine we drive to Cerro
Castillo where you cross the border into Argentina. You will start an
interesting drive through the Patagonian Pampa to the town of El
Calafate. Look out for groups of ñandus (ostriches) crossing the road
and see condors high up in the sky. El Calafate is located beautifully
on the shores of the immense Lake Argentina. Overnight in El Calafate.
DAY 5: PERITO MORENO GLACIER
Today we visit the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, one
of the most amazing national parks in South America, with more than 40
of the Southern Ice Field's glaciers. You will see the most famous and
interesting one, the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of last glaciers in the
world that is still growing. We get as close as about 200 meters / 656
ft to the immense wall of ice from where huge ice rocks often tumble
down into the lake. Walk numerous pathways to observe the glacier from
different angles and take some fabulous pictures. In the afternoon you
will return to El Calafate for your overnight. (B)
DAY 6: EL CALAFATE - PUERTO NATALES
After breakfast, we start our drive back to Puerto
Natales and have another opportunity to observe local wildlife. Arrival
at the hotel in Puerto Natales in the afternoon. Overnight in Puerto
Natales. (B)
DAY 7: PUERTO NATALES - PUNTA ARENAS
After breakfast you will drive three hours to the
airport in Punta Arenas. (B)
