Durban - Zanzibar : Days 1-5

Setting off from Durban harbour, situated on the warm east coast of South Africa, in the Province of Natal, this cruise heads out to sea for 4 days, before arriving at the island of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania. 

 

The Island is 85km long and covers an area of 1 464sq kms. It actualyl consists of two isaldns, namely Pemba and Unguja, with Unguja being the ost populated. Known for its ancient spice trade, Zanzibar is a romantic destination with endless beaches of glistenign white sands, warm sea's and endless markets to explore. 

 

Zanzibar to Mombassa: Days 5-6

Leaving Zanzibar at 19h00, we then head up towards Tanzanian's neighbourign country, Kenya, to arrive at the port town of Mombassa. This bustling city with a history stretching back to the 12th century and like Zanzibar, offers tourists a colourful kelidoscope of markets, white sandy beaches, and beautiful coral reefs under warm African skies.

 

Mombassa to Port Victoria: Days 6-9

After leaving Mombassa, we head out towards the island of Mauritius to Port Victoria, the largest town of Seychelles and one of the smallest capital cities of the world, arriving at 09h00. The local markets offer tourists interesting souvenirs, from sea shell and mother of pearl jewelry, to beautiful  batik textiles, basket ware, tablemates, Rafia and palm work as well as local paintings

 

Port Victoria to Safaga: Days 9-15

We leave Port Victoria at 19h00 and head out to sea for almost 6 days. The cruise takes us up the coast of Africa and around the northeast coast of Somalia before heading into the Red Sea towards the Egyptian coastal town of Safaga to arrive at 09h00. For many years, Safaga was a merchant port, but today boasts a wide azure bay, long sandy beaches and pretty islands. It is also a favourite sports destination, especially among windsurfers, and was the host of the 1993 Red Sea World Windsurfing Championships. 

 

Safaga to Aqaba: Days 15-16

We depart Safaga at 18h00 and head further up the red sea to the Jordanian town of Aqaba, the following morning at 09h00. Aqaba's reef is well known for its  variety of coral and fish. Common species are branch coral, fungia and montipora, and the rare archelia, a black, tree-like specimen found at great depths. Aqaba's long history dates back to pre-biblical times, when it was known as Ayla. According to the Bible's Old Testament, King Solomon built a navel base at Ezion Geber, just 3 kilometres from where the modern town of Aqaba stands today.

 

Aqaba to Suez, to transit canal to Port Said: Days 16-18

We depart Aqaba at 18h00 and track back and up towards the Suez Canal before heading into the transit canal and finally arriving at Port Said at 22h00 on Day 18. Port Said is a city on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt at the top of the Suez Canal. It was founded in 1859 by Said Pasha to house men working on the Suez Canal. Port Said is also an important harbour both for exports of Egyptian products like cotton and rice, but also a fuelling station for ships that pass through the Suez Canal. Port Said also thrives on being a duty-free port, as well as a summer resort for Egyptians.

 

Port Said to Naples: Days 18-21

We leave Port Said at 18h00 and head across the Mediterranean Sea just over three days towards the Italian port town of Naples, the largest and most prosperous city in Southern Italy. It sits on the coast on the northern edge of the Bay of Naples, one of the most beautiful bays in Italy. Its harbor is the most important port in Southern Italy. We will spend the bulk of the morning here and then set sail again at 14h00 towards our final destination.

 

Naples to Genoa: Days 21 - 22

Our final destination awaits us as we finally head to the  coastal town of Genoa to arrive in port at 10h00. Fondly known as the " most English town in Italy," Genoa is often made famous for the fact that it is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus (1447) and  composer Niccola Paganini (1784).
